Colorectal cancer is a socially significant disease. Despite the large-scale activities for screening and cancer prevention, a worrying paradox is observed: the annual increase in screening colonoscopies and preemptive polypectomies does not lead to the desired reduction in the incidence and mortality from colorectal cancer.
